Then you look at your midsection, and there it is that stubborn “pooch”. You feel disappointed. That stubborn “pooch” is keeping you away from a slimmer appearance. It also makes you feel that all the work you put in has been for nothing.

If implemented correctly you maybe able to defeat that “pooch”. You can get on the path to burning fat and toning your abdominals, which will lead to a trimmer waistline and a more defined midsection. Let alone a big boost in self-confidence and self-esteem.
Let’s go ahead and dive right into this!!
Two Types of Fat: Subcutaneous and Visceral
First of all, I’m going to get into a little detail about belly fat. I will not get to extreme. I do not want to bore you guys with big words and definitions and words you can barely pronounce.
Ok, first off belly fat or abdominal fat is combined of 2 types of fat: Subcutaneous and Visceral fat. You see big words. I will not get into much more than just that.
Subcutaneous fat is the fat that you can grab with your hand. It is the fat you can see. It’s the one that jiggles when you run. That is the fat that everyone talks about. It has many names, love handles, the pooch, muffin top, and my big gut.
Now, the next type of fat is the one you can’t see, but you can feel it. That is called Visceral fat. Visceral fat, also known as “deep fat” is the fat that lies deep within your abdominal cavity. It’s a form of gel-like fat that can be wrapped around organs, like your liver, pancreas and kidneys.
Visceral fat can be dangerous. These fat cells do more than just sit there. This type of fat can seriously change the way your body operates. If you have too much Visceral fat, you are really putting your body and health at risk. Many risks are involved, such as heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, dementia, sexual dysfunction, arthritis, and many more. It is almost considered toxic, because it can have such a large impact on your body.
So now you know what you are up against. So now its best to get to work on losing that unwanted fat. Let’s figure out how to do that.
Let’s move on.
Probably, what is more important than just the equipment, is the type of exercise that you use to burn that belly fat. Which gets me into my next point. Lets dive right into it.
Two Types of Exercise: Anaerobic and Aerobic
In the fitness world, there are two types of exercise. Those types are Aerobic and Anaerobic exercise. These two types of exercise are very beneficial when trying to burn calories to lose weight, or to get rid of that “pooch”.
I’m about to throw some more detail at you guys. So just hang in there. I will not try to overwhelm you.
Getting into Aerobic exercise. This type of exercise is also known as “cardio”, Aerobic exercise is any activity that you can keep going for more than a few minutes. This type of exercise will make your heart, lungs, and muscles work overtime.
Many benefits are gained when doing Aerobic exercise. It improves overall health and quality of life. It burns fat, it can improve your mood. It also strengthens the inside of your body, such as your heart and lungs. It can also reduce the health risks that I mentioned earlier.
Now let’s move on to the next one, Anaerobic exercise.
Anaerobic exercise basically is short bursts of intense exercise. The primary examples of Anaerobic exercise is weight lifting or other types of resistance training. When doing Anaerobic exercise it involves the use of your muscles.
Doing Anaerobic exercise also has its benefits. One main benefit that you will gain by doing Anaerobic exercise is that you will build lean muscle mass. By building more muscle you will be more efficient in burning more calories. Also Anaerobic exercise provides the benefit of weight management. Meaning that it can help to burn more calories even if your body is at rest. Lastly, this type of exercise can build up your endurance and improve your fitness level.
So you’re asking what the heck does this have to do with anything? This has a lot to do with everything!! Specially, when it comes to burning fat. So you say which one do I do? I will get into that now.
Strength Training or Cardio Exercise: Which One??
When performing strength training, you are obviously trying to build muscle and strength. If you stick with a strength training program. You are going to improve your overall body composition. This will alllow your body to process fat and calories more effectively. So the more muscle you have the more calories you will burn when your body is at rest. Which will lead to increased metabolism and helping you shed pounds off that “pooch”.
So yes, you can burn fat by doing strength training.
As with aerobic exercise, you are working out at a lower intensity. You only start to get results in aerobic activities lasting longer than 20 to 25 minutes.
So in order for you to really take advantage of aerobic exercise, you must increase your intensity level. Add in high-intensity intervals, or referred to as HIIT training. That subject is a whole other story. As most people think that aerobic exercise is commonly thought to be the type of exercise that burns more calories. This may be true, but it really relies on the intensity and duration of the exercise.
So now the question is which one??
The answer to that question is both!! You will get better and faster results, by combining both types of exercises together.
Best of BOTH worlds
By combining both cardio and resistance training. You are going to maximize your fat loss, and improve your body faster. Combine both into one workout. For example, do a set of bench presses, then immediately go into an all out sprint on the treadmill. It may take some getting used to, but if fat loss is your goal. This will be the best way to lose it.
When combining the two, it is called a metabolic circuit. Doing this type of workout will help you save time and really help to activate fat loss. You can definitely wreak the benefits of doing this type of workout. There are numerous workouts out there, that are available. Don’t be afraid to GOOGLE it!! Preferably, look HIIT training and metabolic circuit training.
Find what’s best for you. Start out slow and be safe. The more you do it in moderation, the faster you will get results. Just get after it and take down that “pooch”. If it is important to you, you will find a way.
Now let’s get to the tools that you can use. Also, getting into the main point of this post. Hopefully, I still have your attention.

They are also very safe on the joints, since there is no excessive pressure applied to the joints. This type of equipment will decrease the chance of injury.
Like I said before, they come in as a close second to treadmills on burning calories. Depending on your speed and intensity. You can burn up to 700-900 calories per hour, when using an elliptical trainer. I would consider this a reliable fat burner. It’s safe and can get you results with moderation and intensity.
